As we’re gearing up for back to school and colder days ahead, it’s hard to say goodbye to summer and the warm sunshine that we’ve all enjoyed in the past few months. If you’re starting to plan a winter getaway and are looking into somewhere warm and sunny Fort Lauderdale in Florida and the surrounding areas have unique family activities that go beyond a beach and boardwalk. I recently attended an event at Dylan’s Candy Bar in Manhattan and learned all about Greater Fort Lauderdale and the one-of-a-kind activities that are unique to this area of the country.
The event, brought by the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau was fun and informative. My kids got to make “sand art” with flavored sugar and decorate cookies and I learned about the incredible adventures for kids of all ages in the Fort Lauderdale area.
The Everglades is the largest remaining subtropical wilderness in the US at a whopping 1.5 million acres. One of the many activities there is an eco-tour in the Everglades Day Safari where you ride on an airboat across the “river of grass”, which are sawgrass marshes. Another cool activity: kayaking through narrow canals under mangrove trees at the 1500 acre Anne Kolb Nature Center in Hollywood. Kids will love Butterfly World in Coconut Creek which features thousands of butterflies and birds and is the largest indoor butterfly aviary in North America.
