We’re into December now and while’s it’s a wonderful time, things are very busy. There are holiday parties to attend, gifts to purchase, holiday meals to plan, family photos to take– not to mention, insurance benefits to use. Don’t let the hustle and bustle of the season be the reason you lose your vision benefit dollars. There are two types of health benefits packages – insurance benefits from your employer, and a flexible spending account (FSA). It’s important to note that both expire at the end of the year! The good news is that both plans cover the cost of an annual comprehensive eye exam and either contact lenses, glasses or prescription sunglasses. I recently took a trip to my local Visionworks in Kew Gardens to get new glasses, so I could make sure I was set by the end of the year. It has been a couple of years since I last changed my glasses prescription and it was time to see if I needed some version of reading glasses (I’m in my mid-forties).
I was impressed with the large and trendy selection of frames.
The pressure in my eyes was measured (yes, I hate that puff of air, too).
I saw Dr. Lisa Modesto, Optometrist, who was fantastic. She really took the time to check if I was having a problem with reading and recommended we try progressive lenses. I’ll be able to wear my new glasses to fix my nearsightedness, but I will also be able to use them to read smaller type – which has been an issue for me.
And now they make the lenses so much thinner, so I can still get cute frames. As someone who has worn glasses since she was 8 years old, I need a frame that I can feel good wearing.
I worked with Tabitha, at the Kew Gardens location of Visionworks, and she made sure I was happy.
Tabitha selected several pairs for me to try on. Which one do you like?

Which pair of glasses do you like for me?
While I’m not going to share yet which ones I selected, I will tell you that I was very impressed with the customer service. Tabitha explained how the progressive glasses work, what my pair would be like, and the features I could select. I will be picking up my glasses in about a week or so and I may reveal my look on Instagram.

Giving Back While You Shop
This is really amazing — Visionworks challenges you to Focus on America and help every child see during this holiday time. Have you heard about their Let’s Go See movement? I mentioned it the last time I partnered with Visionworks. Let’s Go See helps to raise awareness of the importance of annual eye exams for children as part of their yearly health routine. How can you help? Nominate a child, school, or organization in need and help Visionworks give away 10,000 comprehensive eye exams and complete pairs of glasses to children in need. How terrific is that?
Visit letsgosee.net to learn how you can give back to a child in need.
