Are you excited to see Rio2? It’s being released today and we got a sneak peek recently. At the end of the first movie, Jewel (Anne Hathaway) and Blu (Jesse Eisenberg) end up together, living with their humans, Tulio and Linda. In the sequel, Jewel and Blu, and their three kids (!) leave their domesticated life in Rio for a journey to the Amazon. Can you imagine how that’s going to go? Filled with many different characters (most of them wild), they discover a lot of things about themselves.
Starring the voices of Anne Hathaway, Jesse Eisenberg, Will i am, Jemaine Clement, Tracy Morgan, Leslie Mann, George Lopez, Rodrigo Santoro, Andy Garcia, Rita Moreno, Natalie Morales, Kristin Chenoweth, and Jamie Foxx.

Top 3 Reasons to see RIO2
1. Color — This film is packed with it. Vivid reds and blues, lush greens, everything seems so bright and brilliant. The colors really pop!
2. The Music – Latin beats, Janell Monae, Bruno Mars, get the idea?
You will be singing the songs for days after seeing it. I love Janelle Monae’s song, What is Love (here’s a sing along clip):
3. Jermaine Clement & Kristin Chenoweth!
Jermaine Clement (who you may know from HBO’s Flight of the Conchords and the most recent Muppets Movie) plays Nigel. He was in Rio 1 as the bird who helps the smugglers. Nigel used to be the star of an animal show until he got replaced by a parakeet and pretty much has it in for all of the pretty birds. He tries to do Blu in, with the help of his sidekick, Gabi (a poison dart frog, played by Kristin Chenoweth — who absolutely shines in the role). Nigel’s music numbers are pretty terrific, even though he’s a ruthless bird. Gabi’s a little nicer, but she does anything that Nigel says and doesn’t seem to have a conscience.
Is it for young children?
In my opinion, I think the ideal age is around 5 or 6 and up for kids to see this. There are a few scary parts, and animals do try to eat other animals (some times they don’t succeed). Nigel actively plots to hurt Blu, so that may also be scary for some little kids. My 6 year old daughter was scared in some parts, my 8 1/2 year old was not. My little guy (3 1/2) gasped at some parts, but wasn’t as affected as my 6 year old.
Verdict: See it! We really liked the movie and can honestly recommend it. It totally made me want to go to Rio de Janeiro, thought I may skip the trip to the Amazon.
