When you’ve been married for 11 years, spicing up things is always recommended. Even when it’s spiced rum. After celebrating with a dinner out on Saturday night, we were delighted to continue our anniversary weekend by attending a performance on The Imbible: Rum Drinks…And Pirates! on Hornblower’s Alive After Five Cruise in NYC.
We boarded at Pier 16 (by Wall Street) at 5 pm. Since we hadn’t had a chance to eat dinner, we were excited to find out we could upgrade for $18.50 each to get the buffet.
If you’re struggling to remember where you’ve heard the name The Imbible, it’s an off-Broadway show with a twist (literally). Created by mixologist, spirits educator, and author Anthony Caporale exclusively for multi-award-winning Hornblower Cruises and Events, “The Imbible: Rum Drinks…And Pirates!” tells the story of rum from its origins right up to modern-day. Featured on Hornblower’s Alive After Five Cruise, it runs for 3o minutes and you’ll be singing along. Note: While children are allowed on the Alive After Five Cruise, no one under 21 was allowed to watch Imbible: Rum Drinks.. And Pirates or be in the private party deck.
The cast of four was fun and engaging. We really enjoyed the show, which was a mix of info and singing (think a mixed gender barbershop quartet, which actually worked well). I found myself singing along (turns out I know the words to “What Do You Do with a Drunken Sailor”. It totally made us want to see the whole Off-Broadway show.
Plus, they served wine, rum punch and spiced rum, as well as popcorn, fruit, and cheese in the private party deck. And did I mention there were pirates? Did you ever see a show where the cast ENCOURAGED you to drink and taught you about where rum came from? Genius.
What’s Included in the Imbible Package ($50)
- Access to the private pirate party deck (which is downstairs from the main dining area)
- 30-min off-broadway smash-hit “Imbible” show
- 3 complimentary craft cocktails (a rum punch and a spiced rum)
- Amazing 360-degree views of NYC
- Exclusive cash-bar (you get three drink tickets, so you may not want more).
What’s Not Included:
- We paid $18.50 each to get the dinner buffet, which was fine and cheaper than going to dinner afterwards.
- Bottles of water are $4. You cannot take your own on board.
- The upstairs bar did not take our drink tickets, only the bar in the pirate deck did.
Here’s a clip from the Off Broadway Show:
And while you’re cruising (the show starts at 7:15, so eat and sight see the beautiful views of lower Manhattan from 6-7PM), you’ll see lower Manhattan and the statue of Liberty.
