My husband and I recently enjoyed a date night on the town and saw Amélie on Broadway. I’m going to recommend it heartily – the show was absolutely charming! There were a lot of creative parts and the lead, Phillippa Soo (formerly of Hamilton) was earnest and delightful and just shone in this role.
Now I don’t want to give any spoilers away, but I’ll give a short summary. Amélie grows up with very cold, unurturing parents who want her to be serious. Her father, a doctor, thinks that Amelie’s heart beats too fast, so he recommends that her mother homeschool her. After her mother’s tragic death, Amelie basically has to raise herself. She moves away to Paris as soon as she can and finds work as a waitress. She loves to observe others and dream about their lives. She likes to think of herself as a do-gooder and does acts of kindness to help others. She falls for a stranger and after leading him on a merry chase, finally takes a chance on love, even though its really scary for her. Throw in some funny bits and some good songs and it made for a great date night out with my husband!
While I’m going to try to really not give any spoilers, these are the 5 Best Moments From Amélie
- The scene with Fluffy the goldfish
- The traveling Gnome
