We’re so excited – since this release of the Funko Pop! Purple Pieman is an especially big deal for fans from Strawberry’s 1980s incarnation, when the evil Pieman with the twirly purple handlebar mustache terrified kiddies with his dastardly plans to take over Strawberryland. I was also sent a Comic-Con exclusive IDW Publishing comic book, featuring Strawberry Shortcake and Purple Pieman on the cover. The comic book contains two original Strawberry Shortcake stories: “The Stuff Dreams Are Made Of,” in which Strawberry has a fantastical dream about becoming a detective with Orange Blossom in order to search for a mysterious suitcase, and “Yes to the Dress,” in which Strawberry and Raspberry help the Sour Grapes twins pick out new dresses.
My 6 year old son immediately appropriated the Pieman, Blackbird, and comic book for himself.
