The Spanish Olive seems to be one of the go-to-foods for taste and health reasons. Boasting anti-aging benefits and also heart healthy oils (monounsaturated fats), these little guys can pack a punch when it comes to boosting your lifestyle since the olive is a huge staple of the Mediterranean Diet. Not to mention, Spanish Olives are absolutely delicious. I had the pleasure of attending Spain’s Great Match food and wine event in New York’s iconic IAC HQ building where Olives From Spain showcased an array of their finest olives.
I was able to sample three kinds, Queen Olives stuffed with Goat Cheese, Black Olives and Orange Marinade, and Green Olives with Marcona Almonds and Diced Piquillos (which was my absolute favorite). Each of these samples had their own distinctive flavors, the Queen Olives being a bit salty and sweet, the Black Olives were more subdued in flavor but very enjoyable, and the Green Olives having the most impact with sharp notes of bitter, salty, sweet and sour combined. As tastes are subjective to each individual, there’s an olive for every kind of palate.
As far as making dishes with olives, they tend to have a versatility of their own with the ability to be included in a variety of cuisines. On Olives from Spain’s website and YouTube channel, there are a vast amount of recipes from Swordfish with Olives to desserts (yes, desserts!) such as Spanish Olive Eggless Custard. The Eggless Custard is actually made with the subdued Black Olive, which would be mild enough to create sweet creations.
Olives From Spain is the leader in harvesting and exporting Spanish olives. In fact, Olives from Spain caters to 50% of the olive distribution market with serving more than 120 countries worldwide. It’s no wonder since Spain has such a deep history with olive tree that dates back as far as the first century. Even so, 23 percent of production heads to the United States, making the U.S. the largest destination for Spanish olives to date. This would make the United States a wonderful place to play with how many ways the Spanish Olive can spice up a dish. With the Spanish Olive so readily available at our supermarkets, just look for the Olive from Spain label shown above, these table olives can be anything from the star of your meal to just simply snacking on them. Especially with so many high calorie snacks out there, these seem to be the great alternative as these wonders are only 150 kcal per 100g serving.
Whether the aim is to be more health conscious with the Mediterranean Diet, looking to venture into experimenting with new flavors, or just looking for a less than guilty snack, perhaps give Olives from Spain a try!
