Warner Bros. invited me to an advance screening of Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase. I was not compensated for this review.
Growing up, I was a huge Nancy Drew fan. My father’s aunt Dorothy had given me many of the books written in the 60’s and 70’s and I devoured every one. So, I was so excited to see this new version of Nancy Drew on the big screen — Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase. The star of Nancy Drew, Sophia Lillis, plays Nancy very smart, savvy, and sassy – basically she has the traits that the original version by Carolyn Keene did. Did we like the movie? Read on. Summary:
Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase, an all-new film coming to theaters on March 15 from Warner Bros., Ellen DeGeneres’ A Very Good Production and Red 56.
After the death of his wife, Carson Drew decides to leave Chicago behind and make a fresh start with his daughter in River Heights. But for 16-year-old Nancy Drew, life in a small town is mighty dull. She longs for excitement, adventure, and the chance to make a difference. Nancy gets that opportunity when she is asked to help solve the ghostly activity at the Twin Elms mansion. Can she help explain the creaking footsteps, exploding lightbulbs and the ominous creature? Is it the handiwork of high-school bully Derek Barnes? Or is it possible that the ghost of original owner Malcolm Colfax is back for revenge? Recruiting her best friends George and Bess, along with local “mean girl” Helen, Nancy Drew is on the case!
Thoughts:
Nancy’ s spunky, clever, and outspoken and for the current time period, she’s also on social media and pretty tech savvy. At first it was a little mind boggling to see Nancy video chatting with her friends, but we quickly got used to it. The movie was interesting from beginning to end of the movie and my daughter loved how Nancy treasured her friendships and relationships. She clearly adored her father and he adored her. I did not see the twist coming at the end of the movie and luckily Nancy kept a cool head and was able to solve the mystery. We heartily recommend Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase.
NANCY DREW AND THE HIDDEN STAIRCASE WILL BE IN THEATERS THIS FRIDAY
