So, if you’re finding this post, you probably searched how to make hot chocolate bombs or how to make hot cocoa bombs. Whatever you call it, hot chocolate bombs are so popular right now but did you know you can make them at home pretty easily. In fact, this is my second Hot Chocolate Bomb Blog post! While these Hot Chocolate Bombs may not look exactly like the ones you can get in a store, but they’ll look pretty similar and serve the exact same function – they’ll dissolve into hot chocolate goodness in your cup. And if you have an Instant Pot, chances are you have a silicone egg bites mold! So, get your ingredients together and start making Snowflake Hot Chocolate Bombs in your silicone egg bites mold right now!
I recently made these Candy Cane Hot Chocolate Bombs, but instead of putting two of the bombs together like I did for that, after I made the Hot Chocolate Bomb shells, I put the hot chocolate, marshmallows and sprinkles into that shell and then added chocolate on top to seal it. My Hot Chocolate Bombs were smaller that way, but it was quicker to make (since I ruined a few of them). As I get better and more confident, my technique will get better.
What You’ll Need:
Silicone Egg Bites Mold (if you regularly use your Instant Pot) or a hot chocolate bomb mold.
Chocolate wafer discs or melts or chocolate chips
Marshmallows – I used the Lucky Charms type and only used the blue and white ones.
Sprinkles- I found cute snowflake sprinkles at Walmart. They sell them on Amazon also.
Blue Sanding Sugar – edible glitter for the win.
Wilton Cookie Icing – I swirled the white on (yes, you won’t see it), but it gives the sprinkles something to stick to.
I used this stainless steel tray to work on.
Instructions:
Melt chocolate. I did this in my microwave, by melting for 30 seconds and then mixing some unmelted chocolate wafers on top. I’m not an authority on melting chocolate, but it worked for me.
Take your clean mold and use the back of the spoon or a brush to paint the chocolate in the mold. This isn’t as easy as it looks and you may have to do it twice. However, put it in the freezer for around 30 minutes between each attempt.
When the chocolate has been in the freezer and hardened (30-40 minutes seems to be the sweet spot), run your molds under hot water to loosen.
When I made the Candy Cane Hot Chocolate Bombs, I just popped it out using a knife to loosen it, but I noticed I lost some of the rim and I didn’t want to do that this time.
This time I ran them under hot water and then just popped out my molds (I had 3 good ones). As I get better, I’m sure I’ll be able to not break any!
Now it’s time to add the hot chocolate!
Then place them back into the silicone mold and start adding hot chocolate, marshmallows and sprinkles.
Then melt some more chocolate and drizzle it on top (to close your molds).
Pop them back into the freezer for around another 30 minutes.
Then pop them out of the molds again – they should come out pretty easily.
Decorate your Hot Chocolate Bombs using icing, sprinkling sugar, and sprinkles. I did a swirl on one hot chocolate bomb and then a freeform design on the other two.
Then heat up some milk or hot water and watch your delicious hot chocolate bomb melt!
Please let me know if you make these!
