My oldest child, B., was born September 28, 2005. Today he’s 10 and I’m just in awe. I didn’t know I was an adult until I looked into his eyes.
While he hasn’t always been easy, I really love the person he’s becoming. I don’t use his name on the blog anymore (sometimes I forget) because I don’t want his friends or classmates searching his name and finding him on this blog. Plus his stories are HIS to tell now and I have to respect him and keep his business private.
We celebrated with my mother this weekend at a local Chinese/Japanese restaurant. After we stopped at my parents’ house to have cake. We’ll do a class birthday party in November — as he wants to take his friends to see the “Peanuts” Movie.
We decided to recreate a family photo of us — with a MUCH bigger kid!
Dear B —
Daddy and I wish you a wonderful year. We are proud of you and can’t wait to see what you’re going to do in this world. We hope that you and S enjoy sharing a room (that’s coming in December) and you won’t miss your sister being your roommate (she’ll be right next door). We hope for a good school year. We’re happy that you’ve been coming home and taking your homework seriously. It’s the first time since you started elementary school that you haven’t given us a hard time about it.
We love that you are a reader now. We love that we challenged you to read the Percy Jackson series over the summer and you read that and even more. We are excited to share new experiences and treat you like a bigger kid. You’ve earned it.
Love, Mom and Dad.
