My youngest child turns 5 today and I’m kind of in shock. In the last 2-3 months, even in the last 3 weeks, he’s come so far.
My fiery redheaded, blue/green/gray eyed boy joined us on August 12, 2010.
During my C-section (we knew it was a boy) the doctor shocked us when he said, “Congrats, you have a redhead!” This was shocking, but not so shocking. My late grandmother was a redhead (yes, there are jewish redheads) and my mother’s brother is a redhead. Plus my grandmother’s sister (who has also passed away — Aunt Dot was so funny) and her three kids were redheads. We have redheads on my husband’s side too. His mother and grandmother are redheads also. But we already had two dark eyed, dark haired children, so having the third child be a redhead was a shock. We hadn’t even considered it (I was hoping, but after my first child was born, I let that go). And yes, I may be a bit obsessed with redheads.
It was a very big surprise to be pregnant at 39 years old, especially after I had a hard time getting pregnant with my daughter in 2007. I had gestational diabetes during my pregnancy with Skylar and took insulin for the last 2 1/2 months – which wasn’t fun. Luckily, my blood sugar went back to normal once I gave birth.
And we immediately fell in love with our sweet boy. And deep bonds was also made with his big sister and bigger brother.
Skylar completed our family. And I hope he always knows that we love and adore him, just as much as his brother and sister.
Happy Birthday Skylar Reese.
We can’t wait to see what comes this year (he’s already telling us he’s 6).
