I am over-the-top excited to become a new mom this fall, but at the same time a little bit nervous! However unrealistic, I know I’ll want to watch my baby at all times to make sure he/she is okay and having a video baby monitor will certainly help with that. So this week I tested the Lorex Baby ‘Sweet Peek’ video monitor.
Here’s some of my general observations on the Lorex baby video monitor:
-
It was really easy to set-up. All I had to do was put the battery into the monitor and plug that in to charge, along with the camera.
-
The battery life is said to last up to 8 hours (more than a lot of other monitors), but each piece (camera and monitor) also has a power cord with a long cord that makes it pretty convenient. You can put AAA batteries in the camera piece if you don’t want to have it plugged in all the time.
-
The camera has a sturdy base.
-
The monitor has a 2.4” screen…not huge, but big enough.
-
The quality of the video is really good and clear. The colors are a little dull, but the quality itself is good.
-
It has a night light on the top which I think will come in handy. The light isn’t too bright, it’s subtle, and you can turn it off whenever you want.
-
The zoom is a little hard to work. Would be nice if there were dedicated buttons on the monitor to control it, but there aren’t.
-
You can play lullabies for your baby from the camera speaker, as well as talk to your baby. I like this feature a lot and can’t wait to try them both to see if they’ll help sooth my baby (fingers crossed!).
-
I only tested this monitor with one camera, but you can use up to four with it.
Overall, I would recommend the Lorex Baby ‘Sweet Peek’ video monitor to a friend. It’s price-point is a little more affordable than some other brands, with a MSRP of $169.99 (but I found on Amazon for less) and additional cameras going for about $60 (again on Amazon). The video monitor can also be purchased at Wal-mart, Best Buy, Babies “R” Us and Target.
An added bonus: my friend’s baby loved to see himself in the video monitor and listen to the lullabies. He used it as a toy – but I figure when you’re not using it as a monitor you might as well get some extra value!
Get it on Amazon for $99
Thank you to Lorex for sending me their “Sweet Peek” baby video monitor for review. No compensation was received. There are affiliate links in this post.
