Since our oldest was born, over ten years ago, we’ve visited many museums in the NYC and Tri-State area and we always come back to the LI Children’s Museum as it is so big and all-encompassing. The museum has 13 permanent interactive exhibits that have been around for years. Those are tried-and-true kid favorites that are always fun and engaging, no matter how many times you experience them. We recently visited the museum again.

We began with Tot Spot – a pretend-play area that’s perfect for toddlers:

Tot Spot also has an adjacent room with books and puzzles, and convenient restrooms and a nursing lounge.

Next to Tot Spot is a room dedicated to creating bubbles:

Next, we headed upstairs – the kids climbed on Climb-It @ LICM, a two-story climbing structure:

The kids loved the Communication Station exhibit where they got to pretend they were newscasters and learn about all forms of communication:

Sound Showers is an exhibit all about sounds that you can create and hear:

The Broken? Fix It! Exhibit was my personal favorite – it has elaborate hands-on exhibits allowing kids to try fixing a variety of things – great preparation for real life!

I’ve never heard of KEVA planks before but they were a big hit with my kids: (you can buy a set at the museum store)

Pattern Studio has been around forever and is always a favorite with the kids. They had so much fun with the mirrors:

There is also a traveling exhibit: Klutz Amazingly Immature, where we got to try out silly tricks and learn about science. The kids made a paper airplane (with the Nakamura lock)

They tried their hand at lifting a tablecloth while keeping the bowls on the table:

Trying again:

Dad did it!

We had a blast!
