Recently I was invited to a special girly celebration called, “Little Mommy Day” at the always sweet Dylan’s Candy Bar in NYC. Mattel has relaunched their Little Mommy doll line with vibrant modern colors, lots of new accessories and adorable dolls for girls to love and they invited moms and their daughters to celebrate. As we walked up the stairs at Dylan’s and saw rows of babies to adopt, I was a little sad that my daughter was at school missing all of the fun, but watching the sweet excited girls choosing babies nearly made up for it. I had my baby son with me so he and I adopted a cute little doll in bright colors and modern graphic owls. The room was filled with candy treats, a beautiful and fragrant flower bouquet bar, and of course everything the kids needed to care for their new babies!
There were areas for feeding, bath time and bed time where everyone got to try out all of the accessories that are available for the dolls. All of the items have fresh modern designs and colors – gone are boring old pastels! Several of the larger accessories are multi-purpose such as the highchair that comes apart to be a booster seat; and the cradle that was also a moses basket.
I particularly liked the muslin swaddling blankets for the doll’s cradles. Nearly every parent I know including myself loves muslin blankets, so it’s great that the little girls can have their own just like their mommy.
The event was hosted by designer and celebrity mom Rosie Pope, who can be seen on Bravo’s show “Pregnant in Heels” as well as by alice+olivia designer Stacey Bendet. They were given a generous donation for Baby Buggy, which gives families in need new and gently used baby necessities.
Also celebrating was Kelly Rutherford (Gossip Girl) and Tiffany Theissen (White Collar, owner of PetiteNest). Rosie Pope, who is expecting her first girl any day now, happily talked about the importance of roleplay in a child’s development through their doll’s milestones and led the little ones in a pledge to care for and love their dolls.
When my daughter Madeleine finished school I gave her the dolls and she fell in love! She especially liked the toddler doll with brushable hair that I received as part of a gift bag from the event. She changed the doll into pajamas at night, brushed her teeth and gave her big kisses before falling asleep with both dolls in her arms. I have a feeling I wasn’t the only mom from this fun event whose day ended in the same way.
Thank you to Mattel for hosting this event, the writer received a gift bag, but no compensation for this post.
