After eight years of anticipation it’s finally here: Laurie Berkner’s newest CD which is comprised of original, brand-new songs by The Laurie Berkner Band. With of 21 new songs plus two bonus tracks, it’s perfect for kids ages 1-7. The catchy melodies and the simple lyrics kids can understand and relate to make this album definitely worth the wait!
The Laurie Berkner Band is comprised of Laurie Berkner, Brady Rymer, Susie Lampert and Bobby Golden. There are also some guests joining in on some of the songs. Overall, the album is a lot of fun; out the total 23 songs, here are my and my kids’ favorites, in no particular order:
Superhero is very catchy and high energy, perfect for when your kids want to run around the house to release some energy.
My My Marisol: first of all, it features none other than Ziggy Marley, which is enough to get me excited. But it also happens to be a really good song, with calypso tones and a beach-y feel. Ziggy Marley’s voice meshes perfectly with Laurie’s.
This Is How I Do It is a really fun song with a fun beat. It gives kids the opportunity to “follow Laurie” and do as she does in the song.
Face To Face is another song with “prompts” that kids can do with their parents. This is especially great for parents of babies that are just learning their facial parts.
Bubbles is a fun dance song that’s fast-paced, probably too fast to play when your kids are actually in the bath, but great for before or after.
We have a special place in our hearts for Opelika Alabama because it features Brady Rymer, one of the members of the Laurie Berkner Band. He has a wonderful voice and is a perfect duet partner for Laurie.
Swing Me is such a calming song and really evokes the feeling of swinging your child in the playground back and forth and that repetitive movement that can be lulling (my youngest used to fall asleep at the swing).
Hands down, Elephant in There is my four-year-old’s favorite song in the city, and likely one of his favorites ever! This is just a silly nonsensical song that kids find appealing because of it’s Dr. Seuss-like sensibility. It features Laurie’s daughter, Lucy, as a doctor who discovers an elephant in her patient’s throat.
The Music in Me is simply gorgeous and super-catchy, and just reminds us of how natural music is to humans’ ears.
In and Out is also very catchy and great for dancing around the house.
