Thank you to Verizon Wireless for sponsoring this post.
I’m so excited to let you know that Verizon is now offering 5G in select areas! If you’re not aware of what 5G is, basically it’s the 5th generation of wireless technology. Its faster and more robust than 4G and it’s becoming available! 5G means quicker downloads, quicker streaming (we all know we watch so many shows via streaming now), more reliable network reliability, and access to information more quickly.
Super-connected autonomous cars, smart communities and more will all rely on 5G. 5G will provide data transfer rates that are super fast, with a high bandwidth and greater connectivity and reliability. It’s going to be around 20 times faster than what’s possible with 4G service. Over Verizon’s 5G network, lag times will be almost impossible to detect. It’s going to change being online from the way we know it now. Verizon feels very strongly about this – they will not call their 4G Network a 5G Network is customers aren’t getting the performance or capability upgrade that only 5G can deliver
Verizon started offering 5G Home, the world’s first 5G Network this past October in parts of Houston, Sacramento, Los Angeles and Indianapolis. Recently, Verizon announced the names of 20 more U.S. cities that will get 5G Ultra Wideband service in 2019: Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dallas, Des Moines, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Little Rock, Memphis, Phoenix, Providence, San Diego, Salt Lake City and Washington DC.
The Built on 5G Challenge
Verizon is also offering a 5G Challenge. They are looking for solutions in Industry (helping to create new value for customers), Immersive Experiences (next-generation, media, and entertainment), as well as Moonshots (solving huge problems with innovative new ideas). Every submission should demonstrate the company’s commitment to social responsibility and sustainable business practices. To qualify and participate in the Built on 5G Challenge, you must be a US company with 200 employees or fewer. To find out the requirements for participating, check out the Official Rules here:
Wondering how 5G works in your home?
Instead of running cables through your walls, 5G Home is truly wireless.
You use a wireless hub to brings 5G- powered Wi-Fi into your home. Free Wi-Fi extenders can be ordered for extra coverage if needed. You also need a 5G receiver and a wireless node. The 5G Receiver will boost the connection between the wireless router and Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband Network. The wireless node is a small cell site in your area that will connect your router to Verizon’s 5G Network so you’ll get a stronger signal.
