While school just ended for us in NYC, it’s not too early to start thinking about Back to School, especially about children who may not be able to afford school supplies. But you can help with Operation Backpack.
Operation Backpack provides backpacks filled with grade-specific supplies to children living in New York City’s homeless and domestic violence shelters. Last year, with the help of nearly 150 companies, community groups and the general public, we distributed a record-breaking 16,100 backpacks to these children. This year, the need is greater than ever— please help!
Beginning July 14, the public is encouraged to drop off new backpacks and supplies at any Duane Reade store. To print out a list of the supplies required for each grade, please visit www.OperationBackpackNYC.org/fill.
In addition, from July 13-26, Duane Reade will give customers the opportunity to donate at the register, giving the community another way to help.

We do a drive in our office every year for this, and it’s always a huge success.
