With three young kids I’m constantly arranging and re-arranging closets, toy bins and place spaces. My kids are always growing out of their toys, clothes and baby gear and most of it is in pretty good condition and can be used by someone else. I typically like to donate to Goodwill because it’s easy, I know it will be used by another child and as an added bonus, my donated items help fund job placement and training opportunities. That’s a win-win in my book!
Donating is simple: gather your items in a box and bring to your local Goodwill drop-off location. Click here for a donation site locator. Your items will be sold at one of the Goodwill stores and when someone buys your items that money is used to fund job training. A whopping 83% of all revenues supports this program.
To find out how much of your donated items will go into this program you can use this calculator. After you have donated items simply use the Donation Impact Calculator to see the number of hours of career counseling, on-the-job training, resume preparation and other services you’ve helped provide.
For example, 5 bags of clothes, 1 box of books and 1 box of CD’s and DVD’s is equal to 8 hours of resume preparation!
This is a compensated post.
