Do your children express their feelings well? As a mom to a 6 1/2 year old boy who definitely needs help in that area, I was delighted to come across The Mother Company. Founded by moms, they’re a multimedia company that offers products for kids and resources for parents to help raise healthy and well-adjusted children.
The Mother Company offers the Ruby’s Studio Series — which focuses on social and emotional development for children – hosted by Ruby (think beloved babysitter type). The first DVD released is The Feelings Show.
Aimed at children age 3-6, it follows the story of Ruby (our host) who encourages children to recognize, understand and express their feelings (in a creative way). You can even turn on “Pop-up Parenting” to get parenting advice. My children loved lessons on expressing themselves and healthy emotions. They also totally rocked out to the music (even my 19 month old). Cool fact: Mel Brooks provides some voicing.
We also checked out their two books: A Little Book About Feelings and My Feelings Activity Book. A Little Book About Feelings is a cute picture book with that teaches children about a variety of feelings – this is skewed to kids ages 2-6. The My Feelings Activity Book was absolutely wonderful — kids will love the fun, personalized fill-in-the-blank activities to find out what makes them feel the way they do. This is for older kids (or kids who can dictate to you).
The Mother Company also offers “A Little Book about Feelings” App.
