Although I live a walking distance from the local library, I still buy books for my kids to have at home so that they can read over and over. I’m always on the lookout for new books to expand our home library and I especially love books that are unique.
I’ve put together a list of very special books that are out now and that I think are worth getting for your kids to read not just once, but over and over again.
Pierre the French Bulldog Recycles by Kate Louise
Today is Earth Day and a great opportunity to teach your kids about the little things we all can do to help protect the earth. Something as simple as recycling is highlighted in this adorable book about a dog who put recyclable items in the trash instead of in the recycling bin. He chases the garbage truck all over until he retrieves the items. This is a perfect example of how easy it is to recycle and how anyone can do it. It gets the message across without being preachy. You can purchase the book on Amazon for $12.33.
Red Yellow Blue and a Dash of White, Too by C.G. Esperaza
This book is full of imagination, color and movement. In the book, a little girl uses her brush to mix primary colors and paint. This is perfect for very young children who are learning their colors, and also for older ones, who are learning which colors can mix together to create a new shade. The fun rhymes and beautiful rhythmic stanzas make this perfect for reading out loud and the dazzling splashes of color, by Esperanza, will inspire you to spread out some newspapers and start mixing colors with your kids. You can purchase the book Amazon for $14.04.
The Mystery Hat by Rune Brandt Bennicke & Jakob Hjort Jensen
Although the snow has melted by now here in New York, in the land of Crow, Pig and Beaver there’s plenty of snow to go around, as well as a big mystery: who’s hat is it on the ground, next to a puddle? This funny and charming book is written and illustrated by animators for DreamWorks. You can purchase the book here for $13.08.
Gorillas in Our Midst by Richard Fairgray & Terry Jones
Just as Dian Fossey was enamored with gorillas, so were the writers of this book. According to them, gorillas are everywhere, you just have to look since they’re really good at hiding. They can be surgeons or astronauts, or even Apebraham Lincoln or Gorilliam Shakespeare…the most important thing is to make sure you always carry a banana with you. You can purchase the book on Amazon for $12.91.
My Dinosaur is More Awesome! by Simon Coster
Sibling rivalry is just a part of life and in this cute-as-a-button book it becomes legitimate to compete over who’s dinosaur is best. This funny book has random, silly jokes and adorable illustrations. So, who wins, you ask? Read to find out! You can purchase the book on Amazon for $13.50.
I was not compensated for this post. I received samples.
