New York City is the epicenter of musicals so it’s no wonder the New York Musical Festival, held each year, is the largest musical festival in the nation. Featuring around 1,000 artists, the festival showcases ten full-length musicals from all over the country. Overture The Musical is this year’s grand jury selection and winner of Next Link Project. Hailing all the way from Kansas City, it will hold five performances later this month as part of the NY Musical Festival! Don’t Miss: Overture The Musical at the NY 2019 Musical Festival
Overture celebrates the extraordinary grass-roots effort to help the Kansas City Philharmonic survive during its 1953-1954 season. In 1953, the Kansas City Philharmonic debuted its first opera festival and was striving to become a world-renowned orchestra. At the same time, it was fighting for financial survival. Against this backdrop, we also discover two fictional characters, Lily and Christopher, who share the same passion for music and are fighting for survival in ways of their own. A poignant love story about saving something extraordinary and building something beautiful, this real-life story plucks at our heart-strings through legit voices and contemporary musical sounds.
Overture the Musical originated at the July 2018 Kansas City Fringe Festival as one of the festival’s highest attended among its 80 productions. Overture had its first full production with an orchestra at The Arts Asylum (Kansas City, MO) in September 2018.
