I love it when music crosses generations and can get people from all walks of life to sing along to the same tunes. I recently discovered a really awesome duo that has fun, whimsical songs for kids, and it just so happens that their music is so catchy, I’ve been enjoying it myself. Key Wilde & Mr. Clarke have recently come out with a CD called “Pleased to Meet You” and their songs have been playing on our CD player both during the afternoons, when the kids are home from school, and during the day when I’m home and busy with endless chores. Almost all of the songs on “Pleased to Meet You” are fast-paced and high-energy. They’re fun for kids to dance to and perfect if you have a messy house that needs to be cleaned and you need a little boost of energy. The rhythm and sounds of the bass give the songs a kind of a rock ‘n roll feel. And while the quirky lyrics are easy to sing along to, I appreciate the educational aspect of them. The first track, named after the title of the album, starts out with a bang and sets the pace for the other 14 tracks. The second song, ‘Animal Alphabet’, is a great way to learn about the alphabet in a fun, silly manner and in ‘Wander Round the World’ kids don’t only learn about countries but also about means of transportation. Tracks 8 and 9 are a little Beatlesque, which I loved, and track 6, ‘Railroad Medley’, was my hands-down favorite; its’ super-fast rhythm is fun to dance to, and it’s even more fun watching my kids dance to it. Produced by Grammy-award winner Dean Jones, the album of “Pleased to Meet You” is a compilation of songs that demand you get up off your buttocks and start moving. Visit the website to listen to the songs, see music videos and meet some of the characters that are featured in the songs or depicted on the album cover – all drawn by Key Wilde.
Check out their music video for their brilliantly-written song “Rattling Can”, from their album “Rise and Shine” (which I can’t wait to get my hands on):
You can purchase “Pleased to Meet You” here. Price is $15.48. If you want to catch them performing live, stop by Union Square on July 25th.
