My oldest child LOVES spicy foods. So when he gets a choice of snacks, he wants Buffalo Wings and me to use hot sauce. So recently, I broke out my air fryer oven and made Air Fryer Spicy Buffalo Chicken Wings. He was so thrilled with the result.
I was going to cook them the same way I made my other wings, but found that I needed to cook them at 400 degrees Fahrenheit and longer than the 20 minutes that I did my other wings at. The air fryer, for me, is still about trial and error and to me, it’s not like the Instant Pot, that you can just set it and forget it. But it will be so crispy as opposed to making them in the oven or in the Instant Pot!
What You’ll Need:
3 lbs of Chicken Wings and Drumettes (or any amount you like)
Spray Oil — I like Pompeian or any oil you like. Avocado or Olive Oil works well
Hot Sauce of your choice – I used Frank’s Red Hot
Optional:
Celery
Blue Cheese Dip – I used Bolthouse Farms’ Blue Cheese Salad Dressing
Instructions:
Defrost your wings and then spray them with oil spray or toss in oil. You can use frozen wings, but I honestly like them better defrosted.
Place on a tray and/or basket in your air fryer.
I have the oven air fryer and I set it on 400 for 25-30 minutes (for the raw, defrosted wings). Turn over when halfway cooked. Check after 25 minutes and see if they are totally cooked.
If you have the basket air fryer, I would cook them at 360 for 20 minutes.
Let wings cool slightly and then toss with Frank’s Red Hot Sauce in a bowl. Add as much or as little as you like!
Serve with celery and blue cheese dressing.
You can play with intensity by adding more or less sauce. I usually add sauce and eyeball the amount – you want the wings totally covered in the sauce.
