As the weather gets colder, I seem to crave a lot of soups and stews. I am so spoiled by my beloved Instant Pot, so I really try to make as many things as possible in it. I love a classic Beef Stew, but didn’t feel like spending two hours plus chained to my stove, so I decided to make Instant Pot Beef Stew. As my husband was diagnosed with Celiac several months ago, I decided to make a Gluten Free Instant Pot Beef Stew so we could all enjoy it. This Instant Pot Gluten Free Beef Stew recipe can also be made with regular flour and regular beef stew seasoning mix. Keep reading to see how I did it!
You’re going to need beef – I bought angus beef stew meat. For the veggies, I used carrots, russet potatoes, onions and mushrooms. If I had celery and peas, I would have added them too. Since my husband has Celiac and anything I make for him has to be Gluten Free, I found a Gluten Free Beef Stew spices mix from McCormick (this isn’t a sponsored post, I just was thrilled to find a gluten free spice mix).
If you don’t want to make this in your instant pot or make it gluten free, you can either adapt this recipe by cooking it for 2 hours on your stove or using non-gluten free flour and a regular spice mix.

And on for the recipe!
Instant Pot Beef Stew (Gluten Free)
Ingredients:
2-one pound packages of beef stew meat (I used Angus beef chunks)
1 onion
1 cube of garlic
4 tablespoons of any gluten free flour (I like Bob’s Red Mill 1-1)
6-8 large mushrooms (I used Baby Bella)
McCormick Gluten Free Beef Stew Seasoning Mix – note, it’s pricier on Amazon, look for it first in your local supermarket.
4-5 Cups of water, depending on how liquidy you want your stew – I like mine thinner
6-8 small Russet Potatoes or 4-5 bigger ones
1 bag of baby carrots (can use a second bag if you want)
Instructions:
Open the stew meat packages and coat the beef stew cubes in the gluten free flour. I used my square 11 cup pyrex storage dish for this and it worked perfectly to handle the two pounds of stew meat.
Then you’ll turn on your instant pot to the sauté mode. Let your pot get hot and then add some oil or oil spray. I used both oil spray and olive oil (I don’t react well to oil, so I try not to use a lot).
Then add your gluten free flour coated beef stew cubes and sauté until browned on all sides. Make sure you use a stainless steel spoon because the GF Flour may stick to the bottom of your Instant Pot liner. This may take up to 10 minutes.
Once your meat is nicely browned, add in all of your other ingredients and then put the top of your Instant Pot on and turn the knob to sealing. Make sure your ingredients are not up to the top of the pot.
Set your Instant Pot on Manual High Pressure to 45 minutes.
Remember it takes time for your Instant Pot to come to pressure, so make sure you have around an hour or so before you need to get this on the table.
After the timer goes off, I let this sit for around 5-7 minutes before I released the pressure (using the knob). Remember to always be careful – something like this Dragon Steam Diverter may help you not to be burned.
Serve your Beef Stew!
