Did you know that September 18-24 is “Keep Kids Creative” week? Sometimes we find ourselves running around and focusing on fall activities and sports, that we forget that kids need to do something creative once in a while to stimulate their brains. Here are three toys for kids ages 1-12 that encourage creativity not only during Keep Kids Creative Week but all year long! Three Toys that Encourage Creativity in Kids
Playfoam
Sensory toys are always a lot of fun in my household. My kids love getting messy and creating different shapes with this playfoam. The fact that it doesn’t actually create any mess whatsoever is a big plus for me. My youngest is almost 5 so he’s working on his writing and this is perfect for developing fine motor skills. The playfoam doesn’t leave a sticky residue on your hands, never dries and is non-toxic. Recommended for kids ages 3 and up and comes in 4 colors. Buy it on Amazon for $6.76.
Doodle a Droodle
Another game that helps kids with both creativity and writing is Doodle a Droodle. This is for older kids, ages 6 and up, who can draw at least a little bit. In the game, you get a card with a doodle on it and place it in the middle of a dry-erase board. Then, with a dry-erase marker, you draw around the doodle to create a new picture. Next, you remove the card and the other players have to guess what is the doodle on the card. You can use a timer but with younger kids I recommend just letting them take their time and have fun. The game, which is the winner of the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio – Gold Seal Award 2016, is available on Amazon for $28.62.
Zookeeper Sorting Box by Haba
When my kids were babies they loved fitting shapes in a sorting box but this sorting box is a little more challenging. The Zookeeper Wooden Shape Box with a Twist from Haba comes with slides that you can push up or down to fit either whole or half wood shapes and pretend you are feeding the animals. The sorting box is for ages 1 and up and comes with 8 wooden shapes. It can be purchased on Amazon for $34.99.
