If you’ve lived in New York long enough you’ve most likely heard of Blue Man Group, a show that features three men with blue paint on their faces. Who are the blue men? They’re drummers, they’re comedians, they’re accidental painters. To me, they’re aliens from outer space who are visiting our planet. I recently saw a performance of Blue Man Group and thought they were hysterical. I took my kids (aging from 10 to almost 5) and they all loved different parts of it but they agreed with me: the show is simply very funny and you never know what they’ll do next. Blue Man Group Review: A High-Energy Show with Surreal, Non-Stop Humor
Blue Man Group began in the 80’s as a street act, performed by three friends. It now plays to sold-out crowds in various venues around the country, as well as ongoing worldwide tours. The show, appropriate for kids age 3 and up, is made up of various acts in which the blue men play the drums while splashing paint, swallow paintballs and spit them out to make “art” and invite audience members to participate in more nonsensical, hysterical acts. There are large cell phones with which they interact, a meal that consists of eating Twinkies, and participation by the entire audience (don’t worry, you don’t have to leave your seat).
If none of this makes any sense to you, that’s ok. It’s not supposed to. At the show, however, it all makes perfect sense and you will find yourself laughing out loud throughout the show. The live band and the high-energy music will only enhance the fast pace of the performance, which is 90 minutes long with no intermission.
If I have to give you only one tip before you go it’s this: do NOT be late to the show! Get there an hour early if you have to, even two hours, but Don’t. Be. Late.
Just trust me on this one.
