Bar and Bat Mitzvah presents are notoriously hard to shop for. The type of presents that worked for kids’ birthday parties up until this point just don’t seem to cut it. On the one hand, you want to find a gift with some modicum of meaning and, on the other hand, you need to find something that will make an opinionated 12 or 13-year-old happy. What tween or teen doesn’t want some autonomy over the design of their own room? Graphic designer and Judaica artist Rafi Bernstein’s new Design a Mezuzah website offers a great way to tackle the Bar or Bat Mitzvah gift. Looking for a Great Bar or Bat Mitzvah Gift Idea? Design a Mezuzah Is the Solution
Design a Mezuzah is a three-layer system where by each customer can choose a face and two layers of acrylic from a variety of clickable colors on your screen. As you click each color layer, you see a mockup of the color combination that you have created. It’s actually hard not to get carried away with trying every possible combo of colors—though with over 2,400 different combinations, seeing them all could take quite a while!
If the teen for whom you are shopping has a favorite sports team or is has set his or her sights on a particular college, you might decide to go straight to the Featured Designs section of the website where you can choose one of the pre-designed selections.
Though there are fun colors like purple, blue or red glitter that are perfect for kids (and adults who are young at heart!) there are plenty of other options as well.
Once you’ve settled on your design, you can opt whether or not to add a klaf (parchment scroll) to your cart so that it can be included in your order. Once received, each and every mezuzah is welded together to order before being packaged and mailed to your gift recipient.
I bet these mezuzahs would make great housewarming gifts a well.
Come to think of it, maybe my apartment front door could use some sprucing up…
