I still remember my first pair of glasses. It was 1980- something and my mom just picked something durable. They weren’t cute, they weren’t fun. I remember understanding that they had to be sturdy, but I also wanted a little flair. My daughter started wearing glasses right before she turned 5, so I try to time her eye exam and picking out new glasses to right BEFORE back to school, so she can start off her year right and be on-trend with her glasses. So, what is hot for back to school in eyewear? We partnered with Visionworks to get the scoop on the Back-to-School eyewear trends and to discuss how Visionworks is involved in Let’s Go See Initiative – national movement to raise awareness of the importance of annual eye exams for children as part of their yearly health routine. Read on!
Visionworks said that bold, bright colors have set the tone for the 2016 back-to-school season. There are tons of patterned backpacks to colorful wardrobes, so take a look at the trends Visionworks has for your little one:
Fiery reds: A hue not for the shy, frames with pops of red are perfect for your fiery spirited child, who loves the spotlight and trying new things. Red says, “I’m a leader.”
Bold blues: For the confident, social butterfly, reach for a pair of blue toned frames, perfect for turning heads and meeting new friends on the first day of school. Blue says, “I’m social.”
Refreshing greens: Those with big imaginations who spend their afternoons playing in the backyard are just the type to rock this trend of pops of green. Green says, “I’m adventurous.”
Importance of Annual Eye Exams
As a parent, how can you be sure your kid’s vision isn’t keeping them from doing their best in school, enjoying life fully, and being successful?
Here’s what you need to know:
How frequently should my child have a comprehensive eye exam? Annually is recommended for school age children. An easy way to remember is to add “Annual Eye Exam” to your child’s Back-to-School checklist and they’ll start every school year with optimum visual performance to achieve both inside and outside of the classroom.
What is an eye exam? A comprehensive eye exam can only be conducted by an optometrist or ophthalmologist. Specialized equipment and procedures are used that allow the doctor to evaluate vision and eye health, make a definitive diagnosis and prescribe a prescription for vision correction if necessary. Eye exams are non-invasive and typically take about 30 minutes.

I have been wearing glasses since the 80’s as well, my first pair were big purple and durable. In early summer my daughter was in need of glasses, there were so many styles for her. Yet, even with insurance it was still costly. This program is perfect for people in need.

The frames are really adorable! Good to know that they have a lot of choices for the kids, especially since there are kids who are a bit picky with their frames.
