When my father was a young child growing up in Romania, he had a small tool kit with a hammer, a screwdriver, pliers and some nails. He would spend hours sitting under the dining room table hammering nails onto the wall, only to be discovered months later, much to my grandparents’ chagrin. This was back in the 50’s; today’s little boys are all about soccer, video games and race cars; there’s very little hands-on activity that encourages creativity. Moulin Roty is a company that creates old-fashioned games with a modern twist. They’re bringing back antique-style toys with a gorgeous design that bring depth and value to playtime.
One of Moulin Roty’s most popular toys is the Tool Box Set, available in two sizes. The set includes everything a little boy needs to build and create with his hands. Similar to a traditional tool box, the set includes 14 tools, such as a (safe) saw, a hammer, Phillips and flathead screwdrivers, and other tools. All of the tools are high-quality, durable and can be used just as adult-sized tools, but they’re made for little hands. Adult supervision is recommended and the set is intended for kids age six and up.
I received a Tool Box Set for review and gave it to my six-year-old. He opened the case and kind of looked inquisitively at the tools. I started showing him the different tools (honestly, I wasn’t sure what some of them were used for). He seemed disinterested so I showed him that he can actually fix and build things with the tools, just like his father and grandfather. We began using the various tools around the house.
Changing batteries to his helicopter with the screwdriver:
Trying to fix an old nail with the hammer:
Tightening a loose door handle with the screwdriver:
My son loves imitating his father and grandfather and wants to be able to do what they do – the other day he announced that he wants to drive the car! I’m happy to watch him learn new skills and use new tools that will actually help him when he’s an adult. The driving, however, will have to wait…
The Small Toolbox Set can be purchased here for $35.
I was not compensated for this post. I received a sample.
