Update on Day 3 of #pottytraining (here’s what happened the first 2 days):
Sent S to school today in underwear and the school was supportive and backed us up. I called and spoke to one of his paras and had sent a note and tons of changes of shirts, underwear, shorts, and socks. He sat on the potty a lot and tried, but nothing. No wet clothes. I was at work, so our babysitter, G, picked him up. She sat him on the potty — nothing at all. I asked her to give him the chocolate coconut water that was in the fridge (with Miralax in it). He had two pee accidents when he was standing in my kitchen, by the fridge. No worries, I expected that to happen. I got home at 6:20. Babysitter left and I started dinner for my husband and I (the kids had eaten). I moved the tiny potty into the living room so he could get to it and I gave him a drink with a little more Miralax in it. 30 minutes later, after my husband got home and dinner was almost on the table — it happened. HE POOPED in the potty!! Who hoo!!! While that was it for the night, it was a terrific thing. We sang, we danced — we brought out our new secret weapon, the Dinosaur Bucket that my friend J gave us on Sunday night. S got to play with dinosaurs until bedtime. We put him in a pull-up diaper for night (I’m not insane!) and patted ourselves on the back.
Day 4:
I messed up today. I sent S to school with a water bottle with Miralax and Chocolate Coconut water and didn’t discuss it with school. It took HOURS to work on day 3, I gave him a smaller dose and figured it would take hours to work on this day. Well — no. He had two messy accidents and the school called to make sure he wasn’t sick. I came clean and told them that I had Miralax in the drink (which they has suspected). The teacher put him back in a pull-up diaper after he was cleaned up the second time and I didn’t give him any more Miralax for the rest of the day. But.. things actually worked out when he got home with me. I put him on the potty and he actually went. I brought out the Dinosaur Bucket and he was thrilled. And then he went again. And again.. and again.. I noticed when I prompted him, nothing happened. But when he wanted to go…
We went out to get his two older siblings from camp and he stayed dry.
He went again after we got back from camp pickup and my husband got home. Success! But I think we still have a way to go before we can declare him trained. Stay tuned for Day 5, 6, and 7 (which will be one post).

Ugh I feel your pain. We’re in the same boat right now and are potty training our twins right now.

CONGRATS to your family. Sounds like you’re well on your way to success with the potty. Terrific! It’s probably sad that I get so excited over such things, but as a fellow toddler mom, I do 🙂 Happy training!
The Mama Maven says
Aww, thanks! I appreciate it.
Heather Kelly says
Why would you give your kid Miralax?
The Mama Maven says
He was constipated from withholding his urine and the pediatric G.I. said to give him a small dose of Miralax to get his system moving (so to speak). I can tell because his stomach puffs out and he hadn’t done a B.M. for a couple of days.
