After last month’s Netflix Celebration with King Julien, we admit we were a little obsessed with the funny lemur that loves to boogie. Obsessed enough to make it the theme for my daughter’s 7th Birthday party.
We held it at the Central Queens Y in Forest Hills, NY. We held my son’s Superhero Birthday Party here last year and it was terrific. They worked with us to make our themed party a success and the price was very reasonable compared to other local party places.
However, the room that the food and cake was held in wasn’t too fancy. There wasn’t much for the kids to do when they weren’t eating. But we made it work.
As for decorations, we picked some disco decorations from Party City, as we couldn’t find anything Madagascar or King Julien Themed. King Julien loves dancing, so the disco theme was on target.
However, the room we had it in doubles as classroom, so there wasn’t much that I could do for the walls. Not that the kids minded. Balloons were involved. Lots and lots of ballons.
I took the King Julien party hats that Netflix sent and added neon plastic beads to the table, on top of the disco tablecloth – which I folded to show the design.
But first, a little Zumba on the fourth floor.
The Main Activity:
We had a fun Zumba instructor who really got the party started.
My little gal got to wear her ballerina dress from The Children’s Place and was made to feel like a star.
They danced and had a terrific time. Then it was time to go back downstairs for pizza and cake. One of the reasons why we chose the Central Queens Y is that it’s kosher (while we are not kosher, my husband’s brother’s family is kosher). I have a deal with my sister-in-law, G. I make the party kosher and she brings her girls (they are close with my daughter). Being that we’re in Queens, I usually don’t have a problem finding a kosher party place and I am so happy they were able to join us and eat!

The Cake:
The cake was from the Coldstone Creamery on Union Turnpike. It’s kosher. They also didn’t have any Madagascar designs, so we went with Cookies and Cream. This turned out to be a big hit. Every kid wanted an Oreo!
For favors, I did a simple green see through bag with some small party favors and candy inside.
Everyone had an excellent time. Happy 7th birthday to my darling girl!
