Expectant mom Natalie Stanton of Natfly Love attended “Into the Woods” for us recently.
In mid December, my husband and I braved the NYC cold to head over to Kips Bay for a screening of “Into the Woods” for www.themamamaven.com. We had to check our cell phones at the door and had to be swiped by a metal detector before entering the theatre – so the security was pretty serious business.
“Into the Woods” is a modern twist on several well-known Brothers Grimm fairy tales.
It intertwines the plots of a few stories including Cinderella (Anna Kendrick) and her prince (Chris Pine), Little Red Riding Hood (Lilla Crawford), Jack and the Beanstalk (Daniel Huttlestone), and Rapunzel (MacKenzie Mauzy).
The Grimm tales are tied together by a story involving a baker and his wife (James Corden & Emily Blunt), who have come to realize that they are infertile because the witch (Meryl Streep) has put a curse on them.
It was a very interesting ride. Meryl Streep (I mean of course!) was fantastic. Also, Chris Pine, who is forever known and loved as Captain Kirk in my home, filled the theatre with laughter.
Don’t go to this show, however, expecting everyone to ride off into the sunset. It was often difficult to tell who was the good guy and who was the bad guy. Also, those struggling to have children, beware, a good portion of this story is about an infertile couple. After battling infertility for years, I know that if I ended up at this movie at the wrong time in my struggle, I may have run out of the theatre in tears. But, luckily, I am 37 weeks pregnant and was able to enjoy the show. It was heartfelt, beautiful to watch and the theatre filled with applause as the credits ran.
