Are your kids excited about going back to school? My oldest can’t wait to start second grade but I can sense some anxiety from my middle child who is entering kindergarten. To help alleviate some of his stress I put together a list of products that can get kids excited about school, no matter which grade they are going into.
Books
A book is an affordable gift that can not only entertain but also teach about the world, history, or even values. For kids that are already reading I love the “Star Sisters” series. The stories follow two girls, Coco and Lucy who have very special necklaces and when the necklaces come together the girls are magically whisked away on kindness spreading adventures. My 7-year-old read “Star Sisters and the Royal Wedding” ($7.53) and loved it. She liked the idea of a book about girls who help other people and she also liked that they got to travel.A Coloring Kit
Simply drawing a picture and using lots of different colors can encourage creativity. Drawing a picture about a classroom can shed some light on what your child is anxious about specifically. These Giant Rainbow Markers from the Metropolitan Museum of Art store ($29.95) includes no less than 100 non-toxic, acid-free markers and can give kids the opportunity to express themselves in every color they can think of.
A new backpack
It’s fun to get a brand-new backpack and if it’s eco-friendly it’s even better. I love the Lassig Wildlife mini backpack from Haba USA ($26.99). This backpack is perfect for pre-k, nursery school or just as a bag to take for day trips on the weekends. All materials are free of PVC, AZO, Phthalates, Nickel and Cadmium. It comes in six wildlife designs and a portion of the profits goes to charity.
A New Outfit
You don’t have to spend a bundle to put together a cute outfit that’ll put a smile on your child’s face. Check out this post with some of the hottest items I found in the Children’s Place. If you happen to have a boy who’s not really into clothes you might be able to grab him a pair of cool sneakers instead.
And finally – this is not a product – just spending time with your child, discussing what to expect when school begins, what the new routine will look like and what after-school classes or weekend activities are on the agenda can help get your child hyped-up about the new school year.
I was not compensated for this post. I received some samples.
