Video Game Review: Skylanders Spyro’s Adventures for the Play Station 3

We recently tested Skylander’s Spyro’s Adventure Starter Pack ($49). This is a great video game that the whole family can enjoy. The game is simple enough for a 4 year old to play and enjoyable enough for a parent to play along with the kids. This 1-2 player game gives you the freedom to change characters whenever you like. Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure allows kids to utilize different interaction figures and strategies each time they play. Players will embark on a whimsical journey into an amazing world, where they will explore mysterious, mythical lands, battle menacing outlandish creatures, collect gold and treasures, and solve interesting puzzles while on a quest to save their world from Kaos, an evil Portal Master. It is quite entertaining and we have thoroughly enjoyed playing this game.

 

With the experience of watching a 4 year old boy, a 6 year old girl and a 9 year old boy play this game on the Play Station3, we highly recommend this game. This game is available for Play Station 3, Xbox 360, Wii, and Nintendo 3DS. The starter kit comes with 3 characters, the portal of power base (with a USB interface that is plugged into your gaming system) and the game. There are more than 30 different characters to choose from that are sold separately. With gift cards, we purchased 6 more characters and then the fun really began. Now we have 20 characters and the kids love playing this game. The kids have chosen their favorite characters that they like to play with, and so have the adults in this household. Each character comes with a code card that can be ussed to play Skylanders on teh computer. For the first time ever, players can personally customize and power-up their toys, as well as bring them to life on a friend’s Portal of Power for co-op play and player-versus-player arena battles. We had the opportunity to test this out when a neighbor called my son to play Skylanders on her Xbox 360; his PS3 characters with all the upgrades, were able to play on her gaming system with no problems because the chip in the game characters retain your character’s specific attributes.

• We suggest you purchase more characters. Characters are available in single pack for $7.99-9.99 and in a 3 pack for $19.99-24.99 depending on where you shop. This game is so popular right now that Toys r us was sold out of the character packs right after the holidays. Most stores get the characters in and sell out right away.
• Accessories are good quality. The action figure characters are sturdy with good detail.
• Great graphics in this game! And the Portal of Power is so cool when it lights up and colors transition.
• Great interaction to let you know what’s happening in the game and to make recommendations for how to progress, including telling you about other potential characters that could help you by suggesting their category (such as a water Skylander or a tech Skylander).
• Quick reactions when you change characters on the portal of power (up to two figures can be on the portal of the power at the same time).
