My youngest child, Skylar, is 2 1/2 and we’ve started potty training. As an experienced mama, I knew I needed to make sure I had all the tools we needed — especially since training my older son and my daughter was really difficult. The folks at Ginsey Home Solutions graciously sent some products to help us get prepared.
At 2 1/2, even with a step stool, Skylar is too short to reach the sink, so the Graco Transitions Step Stool ($17.99) is perfect – because it has two steps, rather than one. So he can reach the sink, but I make sure to keep him steady and hold onto him.
It’s so much easier to wash his hands and brush his teeth while he’s standing on the top step (he can actually reach the sink now). It’s easier for my 5 year old daughter to reach the sink also, and a bonus is that if she stands on the Graco Transitions Step Stool she can also reach the light switch! Plus, I can also put this right under the toilet and Skylar’s legs are supported if he sits on it.
Skylar is a huge Thomas the Tank Engine fan, so we chose the Thomas 3 in 1 Potty ($23). It makes encouraging sounds if you push the button on the side and comes with a bunch of Thomas stickers to apply. My little guy loved it — okay, he went absolutely crazy for it. The red “seat” comes off so you can always use it on a regular toilet. The yellow toilet insert easily lifts out for cleaning.
We decided to make a set up.. the Thomas Potty next to the big potty, so Skylar could decide which potty he’d like to use. He loves that he can sit on the little potty all by himself, but also likes to sit on the big potty. Whatever works, right?
The Thomas potty also converts to a step stool if you close the lid, so once your child transitions to a bigger potty, they can always use it as a step stool.
For our portable potty needs, we chose the Sesame Street Folding Potty Seat($13). It folds up and has it’s own vinyl bag for storage. It locks open and will fit on any toilet that we will encounter. It easily fits in my diaper bag and it will be great for training on-the-go.
