The other day I was delighted by a package on my doorstep. My wife and I have twins coming, so I was delighted to be able to test out the Joovy’s TwinRoo Infant Stroller Frame ($139). Review: Joovy’s TwinRoo Infant Stroller Frame – An Infant Stroller Frame for Twins!
Everything was packaged in such a neat and organized fashion that It was a snap to figure out what to do with the directions.
I usually toss the directions aside and do my best (often ending up with “extra” pieces) but this time I took a good look and immediately realized what my favorite feature was! The twin car seats go side by side and can face each other without shutting out the rest of the world. When strollers have the kids sitting in a row I always feel bad for the kid stuck in back who can’t see what is going on and for the kid in front who can’t see their sibling. This seems like the perfect solution. Upon closer inspection I found that you can slide the end out a little bit too to adjust the space in between the babies, in case you need a little more room where they can’t reach each other (ie. hair pulling, etc).
The rest of the directions were very simple. Everything was illustrated and it all made sense. The pieces snapped together easily enough that I didn’t need to use brute force and break a sweat and the whole thing felt really nice and sturdy. Sturdy is definitely going to be appealing, when we’re balancing twin infants, a 5 year old sibling and a dog along with all of our stuff.
The wheels snapped right on and had these great locks to hold them in place. Two double wheels and two single wheels tell me that steering this thing is going to be pretty easy even with all the monsters in tow and on the sometimes rough terrain in my neighborhood. It turns nicely and fits through any doorway I can imagine I’d ever go through.
The generous cargo basket on the bottom will easily hold blankets, a diaper bag, some snack, the shoes that inevitably get thrown to the ground, and much more. For now it is holding the bars that can be adapted to fit three different car seats.
The Joovy TwinRoo currently accommodates the current Chicco Keyfit, Graco Snugride, and Peg Perego Primo Viaggio car seats in two different configurations. The bars are clearly marked so that you know which seats can fit where.
Another awesome feature that will help us is one that took into consideration the fact that there are plenty of people surrounding these babies. It offers a generous four cup holder tray. I can toss in a bottle for each kid, a cup for myself and a water bottle for my little big man. Two of the upholders are recessed differently so that they can accommodate snack cups as well as beverage cups. It snaps on below the handle so that it is on the whole frame and not just by the handle. This is pretty great because the cups won’t be in the way when I lean over to give the baby in the first seat his pacifier again and again.
Folding is sometimes a problem for me. I can build things, fix things, cook, clean, even paint a room. But hand me a pack-n-play or stroller that I don’t already know how to use and it will usually end up in a lot of frustration before it ends with success. This one was rather easy. You can do it with one hand once you’ve got the movement down. All you do is squeeze the flatter red button with your four fingers and slide/push the red button that has the indent with your thumb. The thing folds in a second and you can easily toss it into your trunk or the back of your car. There is a little latch that you then can slide down to keep it locked closed. It locks just slightly more open that the amount it can fully squish down to. It fits nicely into the back of my Mazda CX-9 and stowed easily into my hall closet. We’re so excited to use this with our twin babies!
