Spoiler Free Spider-Man: Homecoming Review

07/09/2017 by The Mama Maven

Recently, I was able to preview the newest Spider-Man movie – Spider-Man: Homecoming. I am always grateful to be able to see a film early and having seen the Spider-Man movies with Tobey Maguire and one with Andrew Garfield, I was eager to see the differences. It’s definitely a different tone, plus this is the first Spider-Man movie that takes place in the Marvel Universe. My thoughts? Read on.

Synopsis: Peter Parker is around 15 years old in this. It takes place after Captain America: Civil War and Peter Parker has to deal with going back to high school and going away from the Marvel Universe. He’s got to discover the hero inside of him. You’ll see Iron Man and Jon Favreau a lot – and there are a lot of zippy one-liners. Captain America even shows up, but not in a way you’d think. Actually, it’s pretty funny when you see him. While I am not putting any spoilers in this review, it means I can’t reveal all.

The movie is funny (the writing is excellent, as usual) and there’s a lot of action. Like the Spider-Man movies I’ve seen, just when you think the main plot is over, it keeps going. More happens. And there is definitely going to be a sequel.

The Villian: The villain is Michael Keaton as the Vulture. He was phenomenal in this. He’s an everyman who gets screwed on a huge construction project by the FBI (?), remaking the Avengers Building in NYC that was destroyed, and decides to move into the enhanced (AKA Alien super glowy rock – enhanced) weapons business. Michael Keaton manages to be both sympathetic and villainous in this.

Spider-Man: I loved Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. He was vulnerable and perfect as the young Peter Parker. My favorite scene is at the end of the movie when he discovers that he really has strength inside of him. Again, not spoiling with details.

Marissa Tomei stars as Aunt May — a very sexy (yes sexy) version of Aunt May. Peter Parker’s best friend Ned almost steals the movie and while Zendaya’s role is smaller in this movie, she should be important in the next one.

Did you see Spider-Man: Homecoming yet? What did you think?
